Hosting

How do I setup the script?
We provide script installation service for free if your hosting fits hosting platform requirements. You won’t need to install anything, just provide us with SSH login and password and we’ll install all the necessary software.
If your hosting doesn’t fit platform requirements then you’ll need to install all the necessary software by yourself or pay an installation fee (depends on your OS, please contact us for the details).
Is it possible to install Railorz script to a shared hosting?
No, it’s not possible. Most shared hosts don’t support all the necessary software (especially Phusion Passenger and Memcached) and don’t allow to install additional software. So you’ll need a VPS account to install all the necessary software.
I already have an account at NNN. Would it work?
If you have a shared hosting account then the answer is No. If you have VPS, VDS, or dedicaded server then the answer depends on your OS and resource limitations (see details about script requirements). If you’re not sure then it would be better to contact us.
I have a VPS with cPanel/CentOS. Would it work?
It’s possible to install the script to CentOS, but we don’t provide such service for free. Each CentOS installation has its specific glitches and problems, so installing any software to it is on your own risk. We stongly recommend you to purchase a separate VPS with Ubuntu especially for the game to avoid OS-specific problems in the future.
I don’t have any hosting and don’t know which one to choose. Could you suggest something?

I have a Windows hosting. I would like to…
No, Windows hosting won’t work. Not a single chance.

Domain Name

Do I need to purchase a domain name to run the game?
Yes, you’ll need to purchase a domain name for your game. If you plan to do more than one game then we recommend you to purchase a domain name for your company (like ‘yourcompanyname.com’) and run each game on a sub-domain (‘gamename.yourcompanyname.com’). If you do want to create a single game then we recommend to purchase a domain name for the game itself (like ‘yourgamename.com’).
Can I use existing domain name?
Yes, you can, but you need to make sure to run the game itself on a subdomain of the main domain. For example, you have a domain name ‘mydomain.com’. It’s recommended to create a sub-domain like ‘game.mydomain.com’ and run the game on it. This will allow you to use the domain itself to create a game website or forum.
Can you provide us a domain name?
Yes, we provide third-level domain name (like ‘yourapp.railorz.com’) for each game based on our engine. This name can be used to run the game in the sandbox mode (development). In order to run your game in production mode you should purchase a separate domain name for it.
*Can I run the game in a sub-folder (like ‘mydomain.com/mygame’) on an existing domain? *
No, you cannot do this. The game should be running on a separate domain or subdomain, it’s a technical limitation of the platform.

SSL Certificates

Do I really need to purchase an SSL certificate for my game?
Yes, you do. It’s a requirement of Facebook and it’s applicable to all production games starting from October 1, 2011.
Can I use self-signed SSL certificate?
Yes, you can use self-signed certificate, but only in development mode. All production applications should use valid SSL certificated signed by a trusted authority.
What kind of certificate should I use?
You’ll need either single-domain certificate for exact domain name you’re going to use, multi-domain certificate which includes your domain name to the list of protected domains, or wildcard certificate for a domain that is usable for all its subdomains. If you’re going to run 3 or more games then we recommend you to purchase a single domain name for your company, setup a sub-domain for each game, and purchase a wilcard certificate for your domain. If you’re going to run less than 3 games then we recommend you purchase either single-domain certificate (for one game) or multi-domain certificate with up to 5 domains (2 games).
Could you recommend any SSL certificate provider?
We recommend you to use GoDaddy – they provide valid certificates at affordable prices.
Can you help us to create a certificate?
Yes, we can help. Please contact us. We’ll need an information about your company (name, address, email) and domain.
